Marriage – 1951 – Ages 28 & 23

According to Wood (see Timeline), they first met at the Aragon Ballroom in Santa Monica, May 1st, 1950, and courted for 16 months before marrying on September 8, 1951. He was 28 and she was 23. They were neighbors at the time of their wedding (2522 1/2 & 2524 1/2 21st Street, Santa Monica).

The church where they were married was 1.7 miles and a block from the beach.

They were married by Father James F. Gallagher at St. Clement Catholic Church.

Dance Party – 1954
The following picture shows how happy they were 3 years later. The occasion was the Annual Engineering Dance Party at the Bel-Air Bay Club, 1954.

William Mills Bill’ Tompkins May 29, 1923 – August 21, 2017 San Diego William (Bill) M. Tompkins passed unexpectedly on August 21, 2017 in San Diego, CA, at the age of 94.Bill is survived by his loving wife of 66 years Mary Tompkins, son Dean Tompkins, daughter Terry Scholl, and their families, and his brother Thomas Tompkins.
He was preceded in death by his son Robert Tompkins. A funeral mass is scheduled for Saturday, August 26th at 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church in Old Town, 2540 San Diego Ave.,San Diego, California 92110, phone: (619) 295-4141, with a reception to follow.
